As I began this painting, I added gold leaf to parts of the nest. In person you see the shimmer and color of the gold. However, the metallic sheen is not recognized as "gold" with a digital process such as a scanner, camera, or monitor, so it does not appear as "gold" or shiny in the scanned image on your monitor.

The digital photo below shows the color contrast with the gold leaf a bit better and more as it appears on the finished painting. But you really have to view the art in person to see the subtle reflective quality the metallic medium lends to this piece.
