| Step 1 - The initial sketch is blocked in loosely with pastel. |

| Step 2 - More layers are added with watercolor washed in during three stages. First, I painted the dark blue background. Then, when that was dry, I added the green in varying degrees for all the pears. After it dried, I finally added the blush colors and cerulean blue patches on the shadowed sections of the pears. |

| Step 3 - I defined the pears by sharpening the contrast and finally adding details. |

| I think it helps me to have a limited time to complete a painting. It leaves no time to pick and poke at it. It stays fresh and not overworked. This is one of my favorite paintings for that reason. | |||||
